Handwriting Class Projects Attract Blockbuster Funding, One After Another
Recently, the "Text Hip" trend of authenticating reading in the publishing industry has expanded, and now "Writing Hip" trend—where people seek to write beyond just reading—is making handwriting-related funding projects popular.
Wadiz, a funding store platform, announced that its "AI Notes" project, which was publicly unveiled through its platform, surpassed 3 billion won in funding within just one day of project launch.
The "iFLYTEK AI Notes" presented by Wadiz is an e-ink display device that supports voice recognition in 15 languages, character and handwriting recognition in 83 languages, real-time translation in 10 languages, and offers automatic meeting minute composition and summarization, as well as AI search functionality.
This project was exclusively unveiled in Korea through Wadiz, and more than 6,000 people had already signed up for notifications before the project launch, drawing significant anticipation beforehand.
The device implements a perfect paper texture, making writing and note-taking feel comfortable and natural as if writing on actual paper, while possessing accurate conversion capabilities and technology powered by ChatGPT, attracting great popularity especially among early adopters.
According to Wadiz, a culture has recently been spreading, particularly among Generation Z, that views the act of handwriting itself as "hip." In particular, the trend has evolved from paper transcription culture to a culture of writing on digital screens and creating fonts.
On Wadiz platform from January to May of this year (as of the 10th), projects containing keywords such as "handwriting," "fountain pen," and "calligraphy" have increased 211% in terms of funding amounts, and funding transaction counts have increased 140%.
Notably, mega-scale projects have emerged this year. The "Handwriting Class," taught directly by the creator of the "Miccot Font" selected by Forbes, surpassed 400 million won in funding in just four days and accumulated 740 million won in one month, exceeding the target by 149,637%.
The "Sidoshim Handwriting Class" project, running from April 25 to May 16, continues its success by surpassing 14 million won (as of the 12th), achieving 2,833% of the target, despite high price points for class access rights ranging from 100,000 won to 500,000 won.
A Wadiz official stated, "Handwriting is emerging as a new means of self-expression," and explained, "Customers are actively responding to related funding projects, viewing the act of handwriting itself as a harmless healing method."
