Can medical devices be offered as rewards in global projects?
While it is possible to proceed with medical devices, you must thoroughly confirm the regulations of each country before registering your project.
Since import requirements vary by destination country, please review them carefully in advance.
Conditions for Exporting Medical Devices or General Pharmaceuticals
For general medical devices and general pharmaceuticals, export is possible if the product is approved domestically.
However, entry may be refused or the product may be destroyed depending on the customs and certification requirements of the destination country.
For example, in Japan, products without medical device certification from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) (such as PMDA approval) may be restricted from entry or destroyed by Japanese customs, even when shipped to individual consumers.
Required Checks
Before launching a project, you must verify the customs requirements and medical device import regulations of the destination countries.
Wadiz states that responsibility for items refused entry overseas lies with the supporter; however, as a maker, you are responsible for providing prior notice and risk information.
- Example notice text: "This reward may be restricted from entry or destroyed in accordance with the customs standards of the importing country, and responsibility for this lies with the supporter."
