"Ando Tadao, Bodhisattva Maitreya too - Wadiz fuels art collecting craze"
- July-August art funding surges 2,547%... actual transactions and project count rise in tandem
- Bronze Bodhisattva Maitreya miniature, Ando Tadao artworks, Van Gogh gallery books lead consecutive art project hits
- Reflects MZ generation consumption trend pursuing 'art in daily life'
Breaking through summer market seasonality, art content is experiencing unprecedented success on the funding platform.
Wadiz announced on the 12th that art sector funding from July to the first week of August 2025 grew by 2,547% compared to the same period last year, achieving over 25 times growth. During the same period, transaction count increased 14-fold and project count tripled, proving overall demand expansion.
This growth was made possible as 'collectible content' art products garnered attention, transcending simple artworks.
The Ando Tadao Artworks Collection project launched on July 29 surpassed 170 million won in a single day after opening, ranking first in real-time rankings, and now exceeds 310 million won. The Bronze Bodhisattva Maitreya Miniature unveiled by Gaya Art Foundry achieved 41 million won in its first funding, reaching 8,360% of target.
The hardcover gallery book series featuring Vincent van Gogh's masterpieces surpassed 48 million won in funding with over 500 participants, and is expected to exceed 50 million won as participation is open until September 2.
Additionally, Helinox's camping cookware Jeonlip-tu & Stove One, reinterpreting landscape paintings by Joseon late-period painter Kim Hong-do, gained immense popularity as an item combining both practicality and artistry. The product recorded 440 million won in total funding, including overseas transactions from Taiwan and Singapore in addition to domestic sales, generating buzz both domestically and internationally.
This trend reflects the consumption patterns of the MZ generation, which values 'everyday art' and 'collecting value' beyond simple goods consumption.
According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's '2024 Cultural Enjoyment Survey Report', art exhibition and related product consumption among those in their 20s and 30s increased more than twofold over the past two years, marking the beginning of demand for 'art in daily life'.
A Wadiz official stated, "With the MZ generation leading the way, 'value consumption reflecting personal taste' is spreading, and demand for collecting or utilizing artworks in daily life is increasing," adding "Going forward, we plan to showcase more diverse art projects while leveraging the funding platform's strength of directly connecting art and the public."
