CASE 01: Advertising Claims for Functional Cosmetics
Beauty / Labeling and Advertising Act · Cosmetics Act / Revision
01 · Detection
AI Monitoring
Identify promotional claims in advertising that fall outside the scope of review and reporting for functional cosmetics—for which no objective evidence has been confirmed through monitoring—or that could be misconstrued as having effects comparable to those of pharmaceuticals or medical procedures
02 · Review
Operator Review · Data Supplementation
Based on the AI monitoring results, we reviewed Story and Reward Details, focusing on expressions that definitively guarantee efficacy and those comparing the product to medical procedures
03 · Action
Request for Story Revision
In accordance with operating policies, we requested revisions to expressions that exceed the scope of efficacy for functional cosmetics or could be misconstrued as the effects of pharmaceuticals or medical procedures
CASE 01 Detailed Case
Case of Misrepresentation of Functional Cosmetics as Medicines or Medical Procedures
This is an example of expressions that could be perceived as implying medical effects beyond the scope of functional cosmetics. Expressions that lead consumers to mistakenly believe that functional cosmetics have the same or similar levels of effectiveness as pharmaceuticals or medical procedures raise concerns about consumer misperception and may constitute a violation of the “Act on Fair Labeling and Advertising” and Article 13 of the “Cosmetics Act.”

03 · Key Issues This Week — Advertising Review Violations and Misleading Consumer Statements
We are sharing cases where expressions that could mislead consumers were identified in the process of providing information about the project.
1. Violation of Medical Device Advertising Review Guidelines
Report Details
We received a report from a supporter stating that content differing from the approved efficacy and effects was being used in medical device advertisements within the project story.
Verification Results
Upon reviewing the advertising language and Reward Details within the project, it was confirmed that the product is a medical device approved for a specific purpose only. However, since some expressions in the Story were found to suggest efficacy and effects beyond the scope of approval, we requested that the Story be revised and took relevant measures, considering the potential for consumer misperception.

2. Report of Consumer Misleading Due to the Use of Award History
Details of the Report
We received a report stating that while the project story promotes the product by highlighting specific awards, there is a discrepancy between the key features evaluated at the time of the award and the actual Rewards composition, which could lead to consumer confusion.
Verification Results
Upon verification, the award history provided by the project was objectively confirmed and could not be deemed false. However, it was determined that, despite differences between the key features or composition evaluated at the time of the award and the Rewards currently offered, this information was not sufficiently disclosed, creating a possibility that consumers might perceive the award history and the current Rewards as identical. Accordingly, we requested revisions to the relevant wording and took corrective measures to ensure the actual scope of the Rewards is clearly communicated.
Operational Improvements
Based on this case, wadiz will strengthen its review of false or exaggerated advertisements and expressions that may mislead consumers, and will continue to monitor project information to ensure its accuracy and transparency.
