National Geographic's new camping tent surpassed 2.8 billion won in just 13 minutes, setting a record high for Wadiz. This is a meaningful achievement made possible through active product improvements reflecting customer feedback.
Wadiz, a life design funding platform, announced that National Geographic's '2022 The Original Cabin House EX' opened on the 29th sold out all 2,000 tents prepared in just 13 minutes amid high demand for camping. This far exceeded the previous record of 2 billion won (Basic Book).
Even before the funding opened, pre-registration notifications attracted 12,000 applicants, generating explosive interest. The popularity of the 'Original Cabin House EX' was largely due to the fact that it reflected the vigorous feedback from Wadiz supporters who enjoyed camping over the past year.
National Geographic had previously raised 1.35 billion won through '2022 Original Cabin House' funding in 2021. The newly improved 'Original Cabin House EX' actively incorporated product improvement feedback from supporters at that time, offering expanded options with 2 inner tent sizes 125cm larger than the original, mesh windows twice as large for viewing wider landscapes, and new storage compartments filling the front space, all of which received strong positive response.
The rapid growth and popularity of the outdoor market also played a role. According to Wadiz, outdoor sector funding raised 20.4 billion won last year, representing approximately 140% growth compared to 2020 (14.6 billion won). In particular, the number of project openings nearly doubled, showing the highest growth across all categories. In the first quarter of 2022, the number of openings increased 148% compared to the same period last year, continuing high demand for camping and outdoor activities.
From January to April 2022, 'camping' recorded the highest search count on the Wadiz platform with 170,000 searches,
'Tent,' 'Golf,' 'Luggage,' and other outdoor-related items ranked in the top 10, demonstrating supporters' strong interest in outdoor activities.
The demand for outdoor activities amid endemic trends is reflected not only through National Geographic but also in various other funding cases. In particular, the advances of outdoor brands introducing new products to supporters seeking camping gear have stood out. Major domestic outdoor brands including Aider, BlackYak, and Kolon Sports have consistently exceeded their goals with recent funding launches of tents, camping equipment, hiking boots, and hiking apparel, benefiting greatly from the funding platform.
A National Geographic spokesperson stated, "The record-breaking results were achieved when products improved in usability by reflecting actual supporter feedback met with the passionate interest from consumers eager for outdoor activities," and added, "Going forward, we will continue to listen to consumer feedback and launch various products reflecting National Geographic's unique sensibility."
A Wadiz official commented, "The camping market that surged post-COVID is now drawing large numbers of 'discerning' camping enthusiasts beyond beginners into funding as the endemic environment takes hold," and noted, "In 2022, semi-premium camping products and camping wear that allow enjoying both camping and travel together will gain significant attention."
