Licensed products combining popular brand IP (intellectual property) with ideas from startups and specialized manufacturers are achieving success through crowdfunding and gaining recognition as a gateway to IP business expansion.
Wadiz, a lifestyle design funding platform, announced that Hite Jinro's 'Jinro Toad Dispenser & Cooler' for home drinking enthusiasts, which opened on the 7th of last month, achieved 510 million won in funding. As the first product launched through the 'Fanz Maker' IP matching program, which connects startups and professional manufacturers verified by Wadiz with brand owners, it represents the highest performance to date.
'Jinro Toad Dispenser & Cooler' is an innovative product designed to let people enjoy chilled soju anywhere by attaching it to a soju bottle, following the recent trend of 'home drinking' and 'solo drinking.' Drawing close to 12,000 pre-registrants, this funding campaign broke 300 million won in just 3 days after opening, and ultimately achieved 510 million won on the 25th of last month, receiving tremendous support. Among supporters, men (68%) outnumbered women (36%) by 1.7 times, and Gen MZ aged 25-34 accounted for 40%.
This popularity of the Jinro Toad Dispenser has significant meaning as Wadiz's 'Fanz Maker' business is becoming established as a gateway for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) who face difficulties in IP licensing business with major brands to take new challenges.
It provides makers with innovative ideas and product quality an opportunity to engage in licensing business with brands that have strong fan bases, and offers brand owners the opportunity to expand customer brand experience and create new added value by connecting them with manufacturing makers suited to each IP's characteristics.
Particularly, when launching IP products through crowdfunding, it is possible to ▲ commercialize products without inventory burden, ▲ collaborate with makers from various categories, and ▲ validate market potential by receiving feedback from brand fans and Wadiz supporters before official launch.
The first 'Zanmanglupi' project recorded 320 million won in total, and the second 'MapleStory' project recorded 350 million won, gaining recognition as a foundation for win-win licensing business between brand companies and 22 manufacturers.
Kang In-hyung, CEO of Inteco A.T., a character IP specialist company of Inteco, an IP lifestyle tech company that created this Jinro Toad Dispenser, said, "We gained an opportunity to present ideas as products by leveraging brand IP with strong fan bases, and it's a major advantage to showcase products through various online and offline channels such as Wadiz and Jinro Dukkuppo Sanghoe even without a separate showroom."
Meanwhile, after completing all deliveries this month, the Jinro Toad Dispenser will be exclusively available in the online 'Wadiz Store,' where verified popular products from crowdfunding can be purchased at any time, allowing customers to receive it the next day through 'wa Delivery.'
Additionally, all 8 Hite Jinro funding items including the dispenser have attracted 8,160 participants so far and exceeded 600 million won in total, and with subsequent funding launches such as 'Electric Grill' and 'Toad Refrigerator,' special appliance items are being prepared for release, raising anticipation even further.
