Interview Highlights!
When people hear “PN Pungnyeon,” the younger generation tends to think of it as a pressure cooker brand that was popular in their parents’ generation, or they associate it with Choco Pie.
That’s right—Pungnyeon is a 70-year-old company. But it’s not just a brand from our parents’ generation, nor is it a company people should think of solely in terms of Choco Pies.
PN Pungnyeon is a kitchenware company built on a spirit of craftsmanship. It was even responsible for ensuring the quality of rice during the industrialization era.
But Pungnyeon has been trying to evolve. Under the slogan “Let’s be with PN Pungnyeon across generations,” they even created a mascot.
They also reportedly used the wadiz funding campaign as a stepping stone to broaden their target demographic.
From a company’s perspective, there aren’t many platforms where they can try new things, and it’s difficult to expand their primary target demographics in terms of age and gender.
However, they saw wadiz as a platform that was not only conducive to experimentation but also capable of reaching men and the MZ generation—demographics outside PN Pungnyeon’s core audience.
In fact, their first funding campaign wasn’t a huge success in terms of funding amount alone. But they saw the potential in it.
Also, since Pungnyeon is a kitchenware company, it’s difficult for them to sell home appliances through online shopping malls.
But on wadiz, since backers fund based on the Rewards rather than the company itself, they were able to give it a try.
To the nearly 6,000 wadiz supporters,
“I’m truly grateful that you participated in funding us based solely on the Rewards and the maker, without any reviews—that’s no easy feat.”
