全球创客的常见误区与真相
Last Updated: 2026-08-11
Wadiz is Korea's largest crowdfunding platform, and it accepts makers registered as a business in the US, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Germany, Singapore, Poland, Australia, or Korea.
It's easy to assume that Wadiz funding requires a Korean business registration, or that only makers who already have visibility or a track record in Korea can succeed. But in reality, first-time global makers are launching on Wadiz in far more ways than most people expect.
How much of what global makers think they know about Wadiz funding is actually true? Here are the most common misconceptions global makers have before entering the Korean market.
| Misconception | Reality |
|---|---|
| Do I need a Korean business registration? | If you're registered as a business outside Korea, you can run a funding campaign without a Korean business registration. |
| Don't I need an existing fanbase or reputation in Korea? | A fanbase isn't a prerequisite — it's something you build through the Wadiz campaign itself. |
| I don't speak Korean — can I still build a story page? | With AI auto-translation, writing in one language automatically generates all 4 versions: Korean, English, Japanese, and Chinese. |
| Do rewards have to be physical products? | No. Intangible rewards — online video courses, Notion templates, PDF guides — are all valid. |
| Is it a problem if my product is already sold overseas? | No. If your product already has a sales history, run it as a Pre-order project instead of a Funding project. |
| Do I need inventory or upfront capital to enter Korea? | No. Since it's a make-to-order model, you don't need to stock inventory in advance, and the pre-settlement service can ease your production cost burden. |
| If I don't hit my goal, do I cover the shortfall myself? | No. If the goal isn't met, no supporter payments go through, so there's no amount, fee, or penalty for the maker to cover. |
01. Eligibility to Fund - "Can someone like me also do this?"
Misconception 1: Do I need a Korean business registration?
If you're registered as a business outside Korea, you can run a Wadiz campaign without a Korean business registration. A few conditions apply.
- Your business must be officially registered in one of the following: the US, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Germany, Singapore, Poland, Australia, or Korea.
- China-based makers must complete verification through a PingPong Payments account, while makers from other countries must complete verification through Stripe, before settlement and launch are possible.
- With only an overseas business registration, you can run your Wadiz campaign as a cross-border direct-purchase project — no Korean business registration or Korean mail-order sales registration is required.
Misconception 2: Don't only already-famous brands succeed?
A fanbase isn't a prerequisite for entering Korea — it's a result you build through the campaign itself. Supporters back a project when they feel "I want this product to be available in Korea too." You don't need to already be a well-known brand; a story and product people can genuinely connect with is enough.
The outdoor electronics brand Litefar entered the Korean market for the first time through Wadiz and achieved 63x its funding goal (6,370%). Building on that response, it launched a second product campaign two months later, with zero name recognition at the start.
Misconception 3: I don't speak Korean — can I still build a story page?
Yes. AI auto-translation lets you build a Korean story page without speaking Korean yourself. In Maker Studio, you can write your story in Korean, English, Japanese, or Chinese, and AI automatically generates all 4 language versions.
Note that you can only directly edit the language you originally wrote in, plus the English version — a maximum of two. (If you wrote in English, that's the only version you can edit.) The Japanese and Chinese versions are shown to supporters exactly as AI translates them and can't be edited directly.
02. Funding Idea - "Will this product work for funding?"
Misconception 4: Do rewards have to be physical products?
A reward is what a supporter receives in exchange for backing your campaign. It doesn't have to be physical — online video courses, Notion templates, and PDF materials all qualify.
The brush set and drawing guidebook project raised 20x its goal (2,016%) from 60 supporters using only digital brush files and a PDF guidebook, with no physical product at all, and later ran an encore campaign.
Misconception 5: Is it a problem if my product is already sold overseas?
It is not a problem at all. Even if your product is already sold in your home market, "entering Korea" itself can be the new story.
Project types break down into two categories:
- Funding: for a completely new product that has never been sold anywhere, debuting on Wadiz for the first time.
- Pre-order: for a product already sold or launched overseas or through other channels, reintroduced under special-benefit terms.
If your product already has a sales history, set your project type to Pre-order.
03. Funding Costs - "How do I start with no money?"
Misconception 6: Do I need inventory or upfront capital to enter Korea?
No, you don't need to stock inventory in Korea in advance or mass-produce ahead of time. Order volume is only confirmed once you hit your funding goal, so you can plan production and fulfillment around that confirmed number.
If your project succeeds, the pre-settlement service lets you receive part of your final payment in advance, easing your production cost burden.
Misconception 7: If I don't hit my goal, do I cover the shortfall myself?
No. If you don't hit your funding goal, no supporter payments go through at all, so there's no shortfall, penalty, or fee for the maker to cover. Even without a successful outcome, your notify-me sign-ups, support signatures, comments, and follows remain intact as real market data for your next attempt.
FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Q. If I want to start funding, what is the first step?
A. Start by creating a project on Wadiz. WAi, available from your Maker home, walks you through everything from writing your story to launching, and can help draft your story from your project details.
Q. How long does it take to actually open a project?
A. It depends on your reward type, but with content or a story already planned, you can often launch in about 1–2 weeks. Projects are reviewed under an AI monitoring system, so once prep is done, you can launch on your own timeline.
However, global makers do need to complete business verification through PingPong or Stripe, depending on their country, before settlement and launch are possible.
Q. When do I actually get paid out on funds raised?
A. Global makers get the same two-installment settlement as Korean makers: an Early Payout and a Final Payout.
- Funding / Korea-exclusive Pre-order: Paid automatically, no application needed. Early Payout is 80% of the final settlement (under KRW 10M) or 60% (KRW 10M+), minus fees; Final Payout covers the remainder after refunds.
- Special Bundle / Limited Edition Pre-order: Early Payout only if applied for via the Early Payout Service Application Form — 60% of the final settlement, minus fees. A 3% service fee applies (excluding VAT).
Final Payout follows the refund window (25 days domestic, 15 days if overseas delivery is included). PingPong or Stripe signup and KYC verification are required before launch. For an exact date, the settlement date calculator can be used with an end date and delivery completion date.
